Seven Salutations
All classes at Second Circle are designed to form a coherent, comprehensive practice. Everything has its place. We build on the Foundation Sequence - our central practice - with Flow, Therapeutic, and Seven Salutations. The central goal of all of these classes is the same; to develop functional strength and mobility, mindful body awareness, and a joyful practice ritual.
Foundations
(all Levels)
The central work at Second Circle is something we like to call “repatterning.” Our focus is not just strength and flexibility, but also about the way they’re organized.
In Foundations we emphasize stability and functional alignment. We don’t do much on the wrists in Foundations, there’s one Down Dog, no planks, and no chaturangas. This ritualized class sequence targets the legs, hips, and core to create the groundwork for healthy movement in everything you do.
Foundations is the centerpiece of Beyond Hot Yoga (North Atlantic Books, 2021) by Kyle Ferguson and Anthony Grudin.
Flow
(All Levels, designed to be challenging)
Our Flow classes combine improvisation with repetition, with a primary emphasis on strong, well-supported movement patterns. In Flow, we mix “traditional” yoga poses with modern fitness routines, and no two classes are the same.
Come explore the boundary between steady, mindful, traditional practice and playful adaptation.
Roll & REstore
(All Levels, Gentle)
A grounding mix of therapeutic yoga, basic stretching, and myofascial release, Roll & Restore is a relaxing and light-hearted combination of methodologies. It’s excellent for washing off full-body tension and de-stressing after a long Monday. Tennis balls and foam rollers complimentary.
seven salutations
(All levels, just be ready to move)
Seven Salutations is our newest format, and we can’t get enough of it. In this class, we string together traditional Sun Salutations, more contemporary Moon Salutations, and other ritual sequences of our own design.
This class can really flow. Once you have a sense of the sequence, and link it to your breathing, it becomes a harmonious routine. It feels wonderful to move in unison with your breath and the group, sharing the pattern and rhythm of collective practice.
